The Hidden Meaning of “Amen” Most People Overlook
Jeremiah 11:5 KJV — That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
Revelation 3:14 KJV — And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
The word "amen" is curious in scripture, because it is one of a few that remains roughly the same between languages, but as shown in the book of Revelation, it is also used as a name for the Christ!
The first verse above confirms one of the meanings ("so be it") of the Hebrew version of the word (amen - H543 אָמֵן) and is a palindrome (meaning it's the same backwards or forward - “so be it” and “it be so”).
Another thing of note is that all of the meanings in Hebrew and Greek for "amen" must fit Jesus Christ if it's His claimed namesake:
1) Truth, verily - John 14:6 KJV — Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
2) So be it - Revelation 1:4 KJV — John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
3) Firm, faithful - Revelation 1:5 KJV — "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,"
4) To support (Hebrew root H539) - Ephesians 2:20-21 KJV - "and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:"
5) To nourish (Hebrew root H539) - John 6:35 KJV — And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
6) Be carried (Hebrew root H539) - John 12:32 KJV — And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
7) Verified (Hebrew root H539) - John 5:39 KJV — Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
By His walk, His words, and those sent to confirm, Jesus Christ is the Amen; The faithful and true witness; the first and the last!!! I'm not looking to get an "amen" from men to confirm myself - I'm looking for the Amen to consecrate me!
Think of the times Jesus said, "verily, verily": He was saying, "So be it, Amen"!!! He was signing what He was saying!!! That is done primarily in the gospel of John, which emphasizes the perspective of Jesus as Son of God!!! Hallelujah!!!
BONUS: the first "verily, verily" in John is John 1:51, where Jesus is prophesying over Nathaniel, one with no trickery in himself, that he will see the angels of God ascending and descending on upon the Son of man (Jesus Himself); the last is John 21:18-19, where Jesus certified the death that Peter would endure in following Him, glorifying God.
