What Did Jesus Mean by “I Am a Worm”? (Psalm 22:6 Explained)
Psalm 22:6 KJV — But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
When Jesus began to quote Psalm 22:1 from the cross, I believe it was that the song that the Jews were well versed in year over year being sung at required feasts would be finished in their minds, and identify Him as their Christ. This verse though, it always stirs me up. Here's why:
The word "worm" there is the Hebrew word tola, or scarlet worm -

When the female of the scarlet worm species was ready to give birth to her young, she would attach her body to the trunk of a tree, fixing herself so firmly and permanently that she would never leave again.

The eggs deposited beneath her body were thus protected until the larvae were hatched and able to enter their own life cycle.

As the mother died, the crimson fluid stained her body and the surrounding wood. From the dead bodies of such female scarlet worms, the commercial scarlet dyes of antiquity were extracted.
He was attached firmly to the tree, that His blood stained, so those born again in Him, protected by His body, would enter into new life!!! So many treasures in His Word!!! The volume of the book is written of Him!!!
P.S. - "But that's of the female scarlet worm...": the second Adam (Christ Jesus) was on that cross representing the wife of the first Adam, the deceived, carrying all sin to the grave.
